Kaab Gluay
About This Spot
Stepping into Kaab Gluay feels like uncovering a quietly cherished corner of Phuket’s rich culinary tapestry. Nestled just off the lively street of Pa Tong, this family-run restaurant hums with a gentle buzz—a place where the clatter of dishes and the hum of passing traffic blend into the backdrop of authentic everyday life. It’s not polished or hushed, but it offers an inviting, unpretentious atmosphere that encourages lingering over shared plates and easy conversations.
The pace here is relaxed but lively. Locals and travelers come together around simple wooden tables, drawn by the promise of genuine Southern Thai flavors served with warmth and modest pride. While the road outside may shower the space with the city’s animated pulse, inside there’s a comforting, rhythmic flow that matches the neighborhood’s character—a crossroads where traditional recipes meet the bustle of modern life.
Eating at Kaab Gluay is a sensory journey that feels thoughtfully personal rather than curated. Imagine a spread where sticky mango-ripened rice sits beside subtly spiced southern vegetables, or a fresh pineapple fried rice mingles with the earthy richness of crab curry softened by vermicelli noodles. Each dish carries the kind of depth that only comes from local hands following cherished family recipes, where textures and flavors invite you to take your time and savor every bite.
The staff’s quiet attentiveness complements the friendly, natural vibe—they move with an easy familiarity, helping guests navigate not only their choices on the menu but also the lively environment outside. It’s the kind of place where communal moments happen naturally: a shared smile across a table, a nod of appreciation from the cooks, the warm gesture of a server ensuring your coconut juice arrives refreshingly chilled after the tropical sun has pressed down.
In a neighborhood known for its energy and noise, Kaab Gluay holds a grounding presence. It’s a small jewel that quietly invites you to slow down, tune in to the flavors and textures that tell stories of home, and encounter Phuket’s everyday charm through a meal felt as much as it is tasted.

Wonderful place with very tasty food and great prices. I also found this place through reviews, and it turned out to be just 100 meters from my hotel, which was a pleasant surprise. Now I come here every day. The only thing is that the café is next to the road, so there is some noise from traffic, but it doesn’t bother me.

Food was delicious, especially the fried rice with shrimp spicy paste. The black ink squid was delicious. The shrimp red curry with mushroom was good. The atmosphere was not quiet because of it was closed to the street of Pa Tong.

Excellent food and service here! A little warm but that didn’t bother us. We got chicken pad Thai, chicken with cashew nuts, spring rolls, shrimp balls and pineapple fried rice. All for 850 baht! It’s right next to the street and it is very noisy so it can be difficult to talk but the vibe was cool.

This is a hidden gem. Truly. This shop needs more recognition !! I’m a Thai Food enthusiast and I can guarantee you that this shop is legit. Everything was so so good & tasty. There’s not 1 dish that I didn’t like And it’s super affordable too ! Don’t go to the ones in Patong. It’s pricy & the flavors don’t hit. But this shop is so so so so good ! Just that it’s by the road side so it can be very noisy

I had a great time and dinner at this restaurant—it has a very relaxing vibe. A big kudos to the security guard at the front gate for helping everyone cross the road. The traffic was hectic and honestly a bit scary, so their assistance was much appreciated. We ordered three dishes and two drinks, and everything was delicious. The coconut juice was especially amazing—fresh and refreshing! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, even when dealing with some rude tourists who were completely out of line. They handled it with professionalism, which I really respect. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I’d definitely come back for another dinner. Highly recommend!

The reviews were right on the money when it comes to taste. Don’t let the looks deceive you; the atmosphere is a bit shabby and basic but the flavor is far from it. The red snapper curry is a must try and the green mango salad had too much raw onions for our taste but spot on with flavor! Our server could have been having a bad day, but the rest of the team was very friendly. Definitely would come back if it was a bit closer to the center of town :)

I must say, the papaya salad I have savored here has been the most delightful I have encountered thus far. The service is impressively efficient, with the food arriving at the table without delay after the order is placed. Moreover, the value for the portion size is quite advantageous.

Found this restaurant from an AI recommendation on WhatsApp. The food is good, but the standout dish was the deep fried catfish on mango salad. Next time I’m in Phuket, will be dropping in specially for that dish.
